Norway - a country of hydropower

With more than 850 hydropower plants, 300 large dams and half the underground powerplants in the world, Norway has a rightful claim to the title "home of hydropower". An active hydropower environment of power companies, manufacturers, major consulting and engineering companies, contractors and R&D institutions provides an excellent framework for international gatherings of hydropower professionals. There have been several during the last few years; Hydropower ´87, Hydropower ´92, ICOLD Annual Meeting 1995 and Hydropower ´97.

Organizers join forces

in order to reduce the costs of participation

The 4th International Conference Hydropower ´01 will be organized by the International Centre for Hydropower (ICH) in 2001, the same year as the Norwegian National Committee on Large Dams (NNCOLD) has been selected to arrange ICOLD European Symposium. The organizers have decided to join forces, and a joint Organizing Committee has been appointed. The events will take place "back to back" in June, in order to reduce the costs. Conference topics will be harmonized to complement each other. The events will also be profiled jointly with the intention that hydropower experts will find it worthwhile to attend both conferences and spend a memorable week in "the Land of the Midnight Sun" in June 2001.
